Story In Videos

You just landed on a huge project in the works here at BU!

The “Story In Videos” is a unique way of experiencing a complete ballet from anywhere, with a whole variety of different dancers in each role. It can be used for entertainment or as a valuable learning tool.

What is it?

The goal of the “Story In Videos” project is to allow teachers and students to look up videos of variations from classical ballets performed by the finest dancers simply and effortlessly. No more wasting time searching on YouTube for that one variation that you can’t find or don’t remember the name of!

With videos grouped together and ordered in the sequence of the ballet, it’s a cinch to learn choreography, or to study different performances. Use this tool when you are trying to learn that tough variation, or to show your young students what they can aspire to.

Feel free to use the “Story In Videos” tool any way you want; we just ask that you do not copy for use on your own website (a link to this page instead would be appreciated!).

The Sleeping Beauty Story In Videos: Prologue

King Florestan the XXIVth declares a grand christening ceremony to be held in honor of the birth of his daughter, Princess Aurora named after the dawn. The festivities are about to begin and the Master of Ceremonies, Catalabutte, has been entrusted with the invitation list. He announces the arrival of the palace guests and the King and Queen. Next he welcomes the six good fairies. They are the Candide Fairy, the Coulante Fairy, the Miettes Fairy, the Canari Fairy, the Violente Fairy and—most importantly—the Lilac Fairy, who is the last to arrive (the names of fairies and their gifts vary in productions). Each in turn the fairies bestow their gifts upon the baby princess. They bless Aurora with their individual qualities of Purity, Vitality, Generosity, Eloquence and Temperament (or Honesty, Grace, Prosperity, Song and Generosity).
